Full Monty |
Full Monty The Full Monty means the whole thing, complete. It originated in England from a suit hire business of Sir Montague Burton, where a complete dress suit would be the Full Monty. It is also said to come from Spain where a pile of cards in a card game is called a 'monte'. The English also say Field Marshall Montgomery's habit of wearing his full set of medals was also called a Full Monty. Even tho the phrase had been in circulation prior to the film, there doesn't seem to be any place it appears in print prior to 1986. |
