Dog Breeds |
Dog Breeds A breed is a type of dog. Before a type of dog can be a breed, a pair of that type must produce dogs that have the same characteristics as the parents, usually both in appearance and in behavior. There are many breeds of dogs to choose from. Breeds are broken into seven dog groups or classes - sporting, hound, working, terrier, toy, herding, non-sporting and other. There are over 150 breeds of dogs and each breed has it's own unique features. Dog breeders are people that mate selected dogs of the same breed to reproduce specific qualities and characteristics. Each breeder usually specializes in one breed of dog. |
