Amoxil a.k.a. Amoxicillin Amoxil is a semisynthetic oral penicillin. The amoxil antibiotic, with a generic name of amoxicillin, is used to treat a wide variety of infections, including: gonorrhea, middle ear infections, skin infections, upper and lower respiratory tract infections, and infections of the genital and urinary tract. Amoxicillin acts by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell walls. It inhibits cross-linkage between the linear peptidoglycan polymer chains that make up a major component of the cell wall of Gram-positive bacteria. In combination with other drugs such as Prevacid and Biaxin, it is also used to treat duodenal ulcers caused by H. pylori bacteria which is ulcers in the wall of the small intestine. |
